Jacksonville, Fla. (Oct. 27, 2020) CareerSource Northeast Florida (CareerSource NEFL) is hosting Paychecks for Patriots, a special virtual hiring event dedicated to connecting quality employers with local veterans and military spouses, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5.
This statewide hiring event directly connects Florida veteran job seekers with Florida’s businesses. During the event, CareerSource NEFL matches veterans with employers who value the skills, knowledge and attributes veterans attain during military service. This year, CareerSource NEFL is joined by CareerSource Florida Crown, CareerSource Flagler Volusia and CareerSource North Central Florida in the hiring event.

“More than 50 percent of the veteran and military candidates who took part in last year’s event gained employment,” reports CareerSource NEFL Executive Vice President Rebecca Livingston. “This year’s Paychecks for Patriots is different than usual since it’s a virtual event, but we remain committed to using technology to allow our regional employers to connect with service members, veterans and their family members.”
Along with the main Paychecks for Patriots event, CareerSource NEFL is also hosting a series of pre-and-post event virtual workshops for military spouses and family members.
Pre-Event Virtual Workshops
Wednesday, Nov. 4
9 – 10 a.m. – Veterans Administration (VA) Disability: Learn about the distinct steps that most VA disability compensation claims follow.
11 a.m. – noon – Federal Employment: Representatives from the Veterans Administration will help participants understand the process of searching, applying for, and securing government jobs.
1 – 2 p.m. – Military Spouse Program: This workshop will cover the Military Spouse Program and Resources available.

Post-Event Virtual Workshop
Thursday, Nov. 5
1 – 2 p.m. – Veteran and Military Spouse Entrepreneurship: In partnership with Blue Star Families, this workshop covers the Veteran and Military Spouse Entrepreneurship Program.

Veterans or their family members interested in pursuing career opportunities in Florida who are unable to attend a Paychecks for Patriots virtual hiring event can view and apply for available positions online at www.employflorida.com. Additionally, a special employment portal for Florida veterans is also available at www.veterans.employflorida.com with positions and resources geared towards veterans.
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the Florida National Guard and the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs have partnered with CareerSource Florida regions to connect members of Florida’s military and veteran community with career opportunities through the Paychecks for Patriots hiring events since 2012.
