Jacksonville among top U.S. job markets for women in tech, pay parity (Courtesy of First Coast Inno/Jacksonville Business Journal) — Jacksonville is one of the top U.S. markets for women in tech, according to a recent study.
Jacksonville ranked No. 13 on SmartAsset’s eighth-annual best cities for women in tech study. Although the First Coast remained among the best cities for an equitable gender pay gap in the technology sector, income relative to housing costs, tech job growth and women as a percentage of the total tech workforce, the region dropped from rank 10 in 2021.
Of the 60 major markets included in the study, Jacksonville ranked in the top 20 cities for pay parity between men and women: Women earned 86.22% of what men earned in Jacksonville’s tech sector on average, SmartAsset found.
The study found women tech workers in Jacksonville earned more than $53,000 after accounting for housing expenses. Of the employees in the First Coast’s tech sector, 30.1% are women, above the U.S. average of 26.1%.
Technology jobs in Jacksonville between 2017 and 2020 grew by about 20.6%, higher than the national average of about 17%. Jacksonville was the only Florida city to crack the top 50
Another 178,000 tech jobs are projected to be added nationwide this year, SmartAsset said.
The SmartAsset study notes that, surprisingly, no cities in California made the top 10 in 2022.
