$17M Heart Rhythm Center opens at Baptist Health (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Baptist Health has opened a $17 million Heart Rhythm Center, welcoming its first patients Monday.

The 14,400-square-foot Heart Rhythm Center specializes in caring for the heart’s electrical system, a field of cardiology called electrophysiology, a press release said.

“When patients arrive at the new Heart Rhythm Center, their experience will be like checking into a hotel,” electrophysiology program Medical Director Matthew McKillop said in a release. “It’s truly a one-stop shop. We have the latest and greatest technology, highly trained physicians and staff — all in an environment designed to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable.”

The demand for electrophysiology grew due to the area’s aging and growing population as well as the increase of wearable devices that measure heartbeats like smart watches, the release said. The center includes three hybrid operating rooms for ablation and device implantation procedures, 10 patient rooms and a family lounge.

“Every inch of the Heart Rhythm Center is carefully crafted with our patients top of mind,” Baptist Health CEO Michael Mayo said. “The center reflects Baptist Health’s commitment to providing outstanding cardiovascular care to those in our region.”
