The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region increased slightly from 2.5 percent in February 2023 to 2.6 percent in March 2023.
Of the 885,920 people counted as part of the area’s workforce in March, there were 23,187 unemployed residents in the region – up from 22,425 unemployed residents in February.

“The top industries growing in the metro area over the last 12 months include professional and business services (up 7,500 jobs), trade, transportation and utilities (up 6,900 jobs) and education and human services (up 6,300 jobs),” said CareerSource NEFL President Bruce Ferguson.
In March, St. Johns County continued to record the lowest unemployment rate in the region (2.3 percent), followed by Clay County (2.4 percent), Nassau County (2.4 percent), Baker County (2.5 percent), Duval County (2.7 percent) and Putnam County (3.6 percent).
The current top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (1,233 positions), retail salespersons (1,171 positions), registered nurses (703 positions), stockers and order fillers (660) and fast food and counter workers (653).
In March, CareerSource NEFL received more than 2,600 open job positions from its partner-employers.

In May, in-person hiring events are scheduled with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority and MPW Industrial Services at the Gateway Career Center – along with a regional virtual job fair on May 11.
