The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region fell from 2.6 percent in March 2023 to 2.3 percent in April.
Of the 884,434 people counted as part of the area’s workforce in April, there were 20,591 unemployed residents in the region – down from 23,187 unemployed residents in March.

Regional Employment Update
“The top industries gaining jobs in our metro area over the last 12 months were in leisure and hospitality (up 5,600 jobs), trade/transportation and utilities (up 5,400 jobs) and professional and business services (up 5,300 jobs),” said CareerSource NEFL President Bruce Ferguson. “No industries in Northeast Florida recorded job losses over the last year.”
In April, St. Johns County continued to record the lowest unemployment rate in the region (2.0 percent), followed by Baker County (2.2 percent), Clay County (2.2 percent), Nassau County (2.2 percent), Duval County (2.4 percent) and Putnam County (3.1 percent).
The current top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included retail salespersons (1,367 positions), first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (1,336 positions), fast food and counter workers (722), stockers and order fillers (702) and registered nurses (632 positions).
