JU to expand to St. Johns County with learning site at CR 210 (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Jacksonville University will establish a health care sciences learning site at The Fountains at St. Johns off County Road 210 for its second non-Jacksonville location.
The school will occupy the first floor of the two-story, 12,000-square-foot building. Construction on the new facility will begin this month, with completion anticipated by 2024.
Located on nearly 100 acres at the northeast intersection of County Road 210 West and Interstate 95, Cross Regions Group’s The Fountains at St. Johns has Ascension St. Vincent’s Health Center – St. Johns on site. There is a 160-room Home 2 Suites by Hilton hotel, 174 upscale apartments with 30,000 square feet of ground floor retail and 276 apartments developed by Charlotte, North Carolina-based Madison Capital under construction.
Cross Regions Group CEO David Ergisi said there’s a major shortage of nurses in the country and specifically here in Northeast Florida, which this project addresses.
“My goal was to connect the dots with the folks I know. Bring JU, build a facility there, so that we create an amazing education opportunity to bring them into this program and have jobs ready for them with some of the hospitals we have relationships with,” Ergisi told the Business Journal Thursday.
Jacksonville University Executive Vice President of Partnership and Development Christine Sapienza highlighted the university’s expansion of its regional footprint. JU also has a Palm Coast location that offers masters degrees in speech language pathology and clinical mental health counseling and a 16-month bachelor of science in nursing.
“Jacksonville University is thrilled to continue expanding our regional footprint by bringing our in-demand healthcare sciences programs to a new learning site at The Fountains development in St. Johns County,” Sapienza said. “We are particularly excited to explore and develop unique learning opportunities at this strategically located site, which sits right in the heart of a rapidly-growing area and next door to the outstanding Ascension St. Vincent’s Health Center – St. Johns.”
