National publication names Jax hospital tops for children (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Efforts treating diabetes and work in endocrinology, neurology and neurosurgery led U.S. News & World Report to include Jacksonville’s Wolfson Children’s Hospital among its 50 Best Children’s Hospitals for this year’s annual rankings.
“Our rankings recognize our clinical team’s incredible commitment to patient safety, research and clinical excellence so that the patients we serve can receive world-class care close to home,” Wolfson Children’s Hospital President Allegra Jaros said. “We’re grateful for our longstanding collaboration with Nemours Children’s Health and the UF (University of Florida) College of Medicine – Jacksonville, which help make this high level of care possible.”
Wolfson provides treatment for the full range of endocrinology services, which is possible through the Nemours partnership. Its neurology and neurosurgery service come through the Walter and Michelle Stys Neuroscience Institute, which is run as a partnership with Nemours and UF.
The U.S. News children’s hospital rankings are in their 17th year and are meant to help guide parents through decision-making regarding care for their child.
“The U.S. News rankings highlight the excellent specialized services patients receive and are a stellar example of collaborative teamwork providing the best care to the children and families we serve,” said Dr. Gary Josephson, chief medical officer for Nemours Children’s Health in Jacksonville.
The rankings came about through the collection and analysis of data by U.S. News and North Carolina-based consulting firm RTI International, looking at 119 children’s hospitals and thousands of pediatric specialists.
