FloridaCommerce has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region was 3.2 percent in April 2024 – a slight decrease from 3.4 percent in March 2024.

Of the 875,794 people counted as part of the area’s workforce in April, there were 28,453 unemployed residents in the region – down from 30,262 unemployed residents in March.

“The Jacksonville metro area continues to show significant job gains in nearly every industry category,” said CareerSource Northeast Florida President Bruce Ferguson. “Over the last year, jobs in the education and health services, leisure and hospitality and government sectors grew faster in our metro area compared to statewide figures.”

In April, St. John’s County continued to have the lowest unemployment rate in the region (2.9 percent), followed by Nassau County (3.0 percent), Baker County (3.2 percent), Clay County (3.2 percent), Duval County (3.3 percent) and Putnam County (4.1 percent).

The current top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (1,443 positions), retail salespersons (1,439 positions), sales representatives of services, except advertising, insurance, financial services, and travel (939), medical and health services managers (914), and registered nurses (914).

In April, CareerSource NEFL received just over 1,800 job postings from its partner-employers.

CareerSource NEFL hosts “Recruitment Wednesdays” beginning at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday at its Southside Career Center, located at 11268 Beach Blvd.,  where job seekers can meet with three-to-six employers hiring for current job openings.  CareerSource NEFL is also hosting in-person recruitment events for the Baker Correctional Institute and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at the Baker County Career Center and for KBR Engineering and Technology at the Clay County Career Center.

CareerSource NEFL is also taking part in the Jax Authority Career Fair – where job seekers can explore positions with the City of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, JEA, JaxPort and the Duval County Public School System. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday May 30 at the Bethel Institution Multipurpose Center at 215 Bethel Baptist St. in Jacksonville.
