FloridaCommerce has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region was 3.5 percent in October 2024 – unchanged from September 2024.

Of the 874,889 people counted as part of the area’s labor force in October, there were 30,662 unemployed residents in the region – up slightly from 30,606 unemployed residents in September.

In October, Nassau County and St. John’s County recorded the lowest unemployment rates in the region (3.3 percent), followed by Clay County (3.5 percent), Duval County (3.5 percent), Baker County (3.6 percent) and Putnam County (4.7 percent).

The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+4,500 jobs); Mining, Logging, and Construction (+2,400 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+2,300 jobs); Government (+2,200 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+1,300 jobs); Other Services (+500 jobs); and Information Services (+200 jobs).

The current top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included retail salespersons (1,835 positions), first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (1,641 positions), medical and health services managers (1,212), sales representatives of services – except advertising, insurance, financial services and travel (1,123), and registered nurses (1,019).

In November (excluding Nov. 27) and in December through Dec. 18, CareerSource NEFL hosts “Recruitment Wednesdays” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday at its Southside Career Center, located at 11268 Beach Blvd., where job seekers can meet with three-to-six employers hiring for current job openings.

Also, an Apprenticeship Virtual Hiring Fair is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21.

In November, in-person recruitment events are scheduled for Nov. 18 at the Baker County Career Center (Baker County Correctional Institute) and at the Clay County Career Center (2nd to None); Nov. 19 at the Gateway Career Center (I-Tech Resources and a Construction Recruitment Event); Nov. 21 at the Gateway Career Center (Multi-Employer Job Fair); and Nov. 25 at the Clay County Career Center (AMIkids Inc.) and Nov. 26 (Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office).
