The hiring event coincides with the 10th anniversary of Apprenticeship Week– and Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan has signed a proclamation identifying the week of Nov. 17 – 23 as National Apprenticeship Week in the city.

“Throughout the week, we along with other federal, state and local agencies, will showcase the value of registered apprenticeship programs, hold educational events and share success stories from our respective regions,” said CareerSource NEFL Apprenticeship Manager Doreen Lund. “And, given the state’s focus on apprenticeships and partnering with all the CareerSource regions, we’re seeing continued success through our efforts in Northeast Florida and throughout the state.”

According to the Florida Department of Education, during the previous fiscal year the state recorded:

• A 14 percent increase in the total number of active apprentices and pre-apprentices (22,444)

• A 21 percent increase in the total number of newly registered apprentices over last year

• The creation of 32 new registered apprenticeship programs, for a total of 329 active apprenticeship programs

• An 8 percent increase in new occupations qualifying for apprenticeships, raising the total to 129 occupations

Lund notes that apprentices who complete and receive an apprenticeship certificate of completion earn an average exit wage of $27.81 per hour, which equates to an annual salary of $57,837 – an increase of $4,376 over the previous year.
