Avelo unveiled its plan in the latest of a string of announcements by airlines about new nonstop flights taking off in 2025 to cities as far away as San Diego and Toronto.

“I want to be the first to say ‘Hello’ from Avelo,” said Mike Corcoran, director of network planning at the Houston-based airline founded in 2021. “That’s how we pronounce it.”

He said Avelo will start with nonstop service to New Haven on Feb. 14 as a “gateway to southern New England and New York City.” Avelo will fly twice a week from Jacksonville to New Haven on Mondays and Fridays.

Corcoran said Avelo focuses mainly on serving leisure travelers by going to airports that serve large metropolitan areas but are located outside them so they are less prone to flight delays and crowded security checkpoints.

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority and airlines serving Jacksonville have been adding more nonstop flight options.

Air Canada will start non-stop service in May to Toronto where the airport is a hub for flights to other cities around the world. Air Canada’s return to Jacksonville International Airport also will mark its re-entry to having a nonstop international flight.
