Ackerman brings cancer care to World Golf Village (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Building atop a legacy spanning more than three decades in Northeast Florida, Ackerman Cancer Center has expanded from Jacksonville to St. Johns County.

Already the first and only physician-owned proton therapy center in the world, the organization opened its newest center at 520 W. Twincourt Trail, Suites 4 and 5, in World Golf Village Tuesday morning.

“We’re expanding to St. Johns County to make it easier for patients in the area to access the highest-quality, personalized cancer care close to home,” Medical Director Dr. Scot Ackerman said in a statement to the Business Journal.

The center will deliver personalized treatment options and advanced technology. That includes PET/CT imaging, which combines Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography to help physicians see both the structure and function of organs and tissues, according to the center. It helps detect and monitor various cancer types.

Founded in 1997, Ackerman Cancer Center provides patients with an alternative to larger institutions, according to its website. Aside from its newest World Golf Village office, it operates three other locations in Mandarin, Amelia Island and Riverside.

“This growth reflects our mission to serve everyone in the Northeast Florida communities,” Ackerman said, “providing compassionate, advanced treatment that improves outcomes and quality of life.”
