Holiday, Fla. – Amazon’s new facility opening in Pasco County will support a 100% robotics-based sorting system. Target has chosen Pasco County for its next fulfillment center, which will also be operated primarily by robots. It takes special job skills in robotics to successfully work in these types of facilities. Fortunately, AmSkills can now provide that training, thanks to a partnership with the Florida Department of Education’s Apprenticeship Program.

AmSkills is now the first registered Robotics Technician Apprenticeship Program in the state of Florida. This designation allows AmSkills to continue to develop and implement the robotics programs it currently provides to participants in its Manufacturing Bootcamps.

“We are excited to not only expand on our current robotics programs, but to also build a program that will allow AmSkills to become a destination point for robotics training in the state of Florida,” said Tom Mudano, President & CEO of AmSkills.

According to a letter from Kathryn Wheeler, Director of Apprenticeship for the Department of Education, “Workforce education is a top priority for Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Department of Education with the goal of being number one in the nation by 2030. We rely on local organizations with a vested interest in student success to supplement the tremendous work taking place throughout Florida’s education system and provide ongoing world-class education opportunities.”

She continues, “AmSkills Apprenticeship Program plays a pivotal role in securing Florida’s future. We appreciate greatly your interest in helping to make Florida #1 in the nation for workforce education. The new occupations have been added to the federal RAPIDS 2.0 system and you are welcome to start registering apprentices.”

MORE EXCITING NEWS: In addition to the Robotics Technician Apprenticeship Program, AmSkills has also become a Universal Robots Authorized Training Center. Universal Robots (UR) is the largest manufacturer of Collaborative Robots (Cobots) in the world. This means that anyone in the world who purchases a UR product can choose to come to our facility in Pasco County to receive five days of training from our certified instructor.

AmSkills is a 501(c)(3) organization that teaches high school students and adults the foundational skills needed for a career in the manufacturing industry using hands-on training. It also gives these students the chance to explore multiple career paths in the manufacturing field. Once completed, candidates are eligible for paid, semi-skilled jobs or skilled apprenticeship opportunities.
