Baptist Medical Center renovation enters phase 2 with $8M permit (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — A multi-million-dollar project to renovate the existing structure of Baptist Medical Center on Jacksonville’s Southside has entered phase two with a permit issued Monday.

Located at 800 Prudential Drive, the ongoing project will expand the labor and delivery suite into the area vacated by the NICU and renovate existing operating rooms, according to the permit.

Phase two arrives with an $8 million price tag and spans approximately 218,000 square feet, per city documents. Monday’s permit builds on two others issued in March 2024, which initially began the project with $7.2 million in permits — $4.6 million for the expansion of the labor and delivery suite, phase one of this project, plus a $2.6 million to renovate three cardiovascular operating rooms.

The Haskell Company is the architect and general contractor on record for both phase one and two of the renovations.

The last two years have seen Baptist’s broader efforts to grow on the First Coast. The Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center opened at the $234 million, six-story Baptist Medical Center Clay campus in Fleming Island in 2023, and the Baptist Medical Center in Nassau debuted in November 2024. The facility in Nassau was built for future expansion as the area serves 63,500 people within a 15-minute drive, a number the hospital expects to grow by 11.4% by 2029.
