Breeze Airways adding nonstop flights to New York from Jacksonville in June (Courtesy of the Florida Times-Union) — Less than a month before Breeze Airways begins offering nonstop service to Las Vegas, New Orleans and five other cities from Jacksonville, the year-old airline is adding another popular destination: New York.
But don’t expect to fly into busy JFK, LaGuardia or Newark.
Instead, Breeze is adding flights from eight destinations to Westchester County Airport, which is located about 30 miles north of New York City.
And Jacksonville is one of those.
More flight options: Breeze Airways lands Jacksonville as its newest nonstop spot, a ‘game-changer’ for NE Florida
“It just kind of goes along with our business model of flying to places where others don’t fly,” said David Neeleman, who launched Breeze and before that, JetBlue, in announcing the new routes on Wednesday.
Nonstop service to Westchester County Airport from Jacksonville International Airport begins Thursday, June 30, according to Breeze’s website. Flights — starting at $79 each way — between Jacksonville and Westchester are scheduled for Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Breeze offers three fare bundles, with more room and amenities as passengers go from what they term Nice to Nicer and Nicest.
Breeze will make its debut at JIA on Thursday, May 19, with a flight to Richmond, Va., and launch nonstop service to other destinations in the following weeks, including: New Orleans (May 22); Providence, R.I. (May 27); Columbus, Ohio (May 27); Norfolk, Va. (May 27) Hartford, Conn. (June 3); and Las Vegas (Sept. 8).
When Breeze announced in early March its plans to begin service to JIA, Jacksonville Aviation Authority CEO Mark VanLoh called it the largest single-service announcement in the airport’s history.
“The airline will offer service to several of our largest unserved markets,” VanLoh said at the time.
Breeze is the latest airline to offer nonstop flights from Jacksonville.
In the last year, Allegiant Air added flights to Nashville, Tenn., and Dulles International Airport in Virginia; Sun Country Airlines began service to Minneapolis-St. Paul; Frontier launched flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
American Airlines also added service to Austin, Texas; JetBlue to Los Angeles, Newark, N.J., Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and New York; Southwest Airlines to Washington and St. Louis; and Silver Airways to New Orleans.
