Florida expansion pays off as Fifth Third clinches top spot in banking satisfaction survey (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Fifth Third Bank has been named the top bank in Florida for customer satisfaction in retail banking, according to J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Retail Banking Satisfaction Study — marking the second consecutive year the institution has earned the distinction.

Fifth Third, headquartered in Cincinnati, has aggressively expanded across the Southeast in recent years, with Florida at the center of that strategy. The bank has opened 37 branches in the state since 2022 and plans to add 72 more by the end of 2028, part of a broader plan to add 200 locations in the region. It currently operates 186 branches throughout Florida.

“This recognition is a testament to our vision to be the one bank people most value and trust,” said Jamie Leonard, chief operating officer of Fifth Third, in a statement. The bank also received top marks for its account offerings and perceived value.

Locally, the bank is helmed by Brian Evans and has more than $1.35B area deposits, according to the latest information available from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Florida’s appeal to banks like Fifth Third lies in its demographic and economic momentum. With an influx of new residents and sustained business formation, the Sunshine State continues to outpace the national average in growth — fueling demand for both personal and commercial banking services.

As more financial institutions eye expansion across the state, customer satisfaction metrics like those from J.D. Power are likely to play an increasing role in differentiating banks in a competitive landscape.

Fifth Third’s push into Florida reflects broader trends in U.S. regional banking, where institutions seek growth outside traditional strongholds and into high-opportunity markets — especially those in the Southeast.
