HCA Florida Memorial Hospital to build ER in Yulee (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Emergency care is growing in Nassau County with a new freestanding emergency room in Yulee.

HCA Florida Healthcare will break ground on the ER at 462541 State Road 200 Friday. The ER will be 15,530 square feet on 55 acres of land along Interstate 95 at the northeast corner of State Road 200 in Nassau County.

It will serve the communities of Yulee, Callahan, Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island and South Georgia residents and plans to open in the first quarter of 2025.

“The goal of the new space is to provide better access for patients needing emergency care to the Nassau County region,” CEO Reed Hammond said. “As a part of HCA Florida Healthcare, the largest healthcare family in Florida, Nassau County will now be connected to a wide spectrum of statewide healthcare resources previously not available.”

Construction and new equipment costs total about $16.9 million. The land was purchased in September 2019 for $15.8 million.

The project is being developed in partnership with HOAR Construction, with architects from TMPartners and the design-build team from Limbach Engineering.

Last month, the city was reviewing a $6.5 million permit to construct a single-story, 10,680-square-foot emergency room at 8100 Merrill Road for an HCA Florida Memorial Hospital freestanding ER in Arlington.

It also submitted plans for a standalone ER in St. Johns County in February. Plans show a 19,000-square-foot ER, medical office and commercial/office space at State Road 16.

The hospital sought $15.5 million worth of operating room additions and interior renovations in 2020. It also constructed a $3.7 million bi-plane suite to better identify and treat people suffering from neurological conditions in another expansion in May 2023.

HCA Florida Memorial Hospital received a top grade in the 2024 Hospital Safety Grades report issued by the Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit that tracks patient safety.
