Jacksonville International Airport sees record passenger traffic for summer travel (Courtesy of the Florida Times-Union) — Jacksonville International Airport reached a new milestone last month that underscores the city’s growing role as a travel hub for the Southeast.
Over 709,000 passengers flew through JAX in July, making it the busiest July in the airport’s history and marking a 3.1% increase over record-breaking traffic from July 2024.
The surge is fueled in part by an expanding roster of airlines and routes. In the first half of 2025, JAX added two new airlines and 12 new, non-stop destinations to its offerings:
- Avelo Airlines launched nonstop flights to New Haven, Connecticut, and Wilmington, Delaware.
- Air Canada now offers seasonal daily service to Toronto.
- Allegiant Airlines introduced routes to Akron/Canton, Ohio; Des Moines, Iowa; and Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- Breeze Airways added nonstop service to New Haven as well with plans to add Akron/Canton in September.
- Southwest Airlines recently introduced Saturday flights to Kansas City, Missouri, and plans nonstop service to Austin, Texas, beginning in October.
These additions reflect how attractive Northeast Florida has become for both leisure and business travelers, according to Mark VanLoh, Jacksonville Aviation Authority CEO.
“This is proof that Northeast Florida is a growing region and an attractive destination for airlines,” he said in a news release.
With record traffic comes the need for expansion — a need which JAX already predicted and is working to meet.
Construction at the airport has been underway on a third concourse and a new parking garage, both of which are expected to open in late 2026.
Earlier this year, a fire damaged portions of the airport’s parking garage, underscoring the need for the additional spaces that will come with the new facility.
These major infrastructure projects include a new, six-gate concourse with additional concessions, restaurants and passenger amenities and approximately 2,000 additional parking spaces.
These projects follow other recent improvements, including modernized TSA checkpoints, expanded food and beverage offerings and enhanced customer service technology, like upgraded flight information displays and high-speed Wi-Fi.
As JAX continues to expand its footprint with new gates, new routes and new amenities, the airport is positioning itself as a true gateway to Northeast Florida and a reflection of its momentum.
