Jacksonville’s Miller Electric expands Florida footprint with acquisition of 55-year-old contractor (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — As Miller Electric approaches its 100th anniversary, the Jacksonville-based contractor is using the backing of its Fortune 500 parent company to expand deeper into Florida.
Miller Electric announced June 10 that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of Giles Electric Company, a Daytona Beach-based electrical contractor with more than 55 years in business.
The deal marks a new chapter for Miller, which was acquired by EMCOR Group Inc. in January 2025 in an $865 million cash deal that the company said would give it more resources to grow, invest in workforce development and take on more complex projects across the Southeast.
Now, Miller is using that platform to grow through acquisition.
Upon completion of the transaction, Giles Electric will operate as Miller Electric’s Daytona Beach-area business unit while retaining its name, brand, leadership team and Daytona Beach location. The transaction is expected to close in June, subject to customary closing conditions.
“Giles Electric has built a legacy of delivering high-quality electrical solutions and maintaining strong, long-standing client relationships,” Miller Electric CEO Henry Brown said in a statement to the Business Journal. “Their service-first mindset, reputation for excellence, and forward-thinking approach align closely with Miller Electric’s values and operating philosophy. We are excited to welcome Giles Electric to our organization and believe this partnership will further enhance our ability to serve clients across Florida and the Southeast.”
Giles Electric provides electrical construction services to commercial and institutional clients.
The acquisition expands Miller Electric’s presence in Central Florida while adding resources to support continued growth across the region.
Founded in 1928, Miller Electric has grown into one of Jacksonville’s most prominent homegrown contractors. The company now has more than 5,000 employees and provides energy and technology infrastructure solutions to commercial, institutional, industrial and mission-critical clients across the United States.
That growth has accelerated under EMCOR [NYSE: EME], which acquired Miller in a deal that closed Feb. 3, 2025. At the time, Brown told the Business Journal that EMCOR’s ownership would allow Miller to do more, not less, while preserving the Jacksonville company’s local leadership and community ties.
“They acquired Miller Electric because they respect what we do,” Brown said at the time. “They value the partnerships we have, the relationships we have, and they want to leave those alone and give us the opportunity to grow those, and I think if anything, it allows us to be a better partner for those existing relationships because we now have the resources of this great, Fortune 500 company behind us within the same local leadership that’s the same commitment that we have to these customers, the community and to our workforce.”
The Giles deal follows that same model of keeping local leadership in place.
“For more than five decades, Giles Electric has taken great pride in delivering exceptional service to our clients and investing in our people,” Giles Electric CEO Brad Giles said in a statement. “I am very familiar with the Miller Electric leadership team, and it is clear they share our values, understand our business, and are committed to preserving what makes Giles Electric special. Joining Miller Electric positions us to enhance our services for our clients and expand opportunities for our employees.”
After the transaction closes, Brad Giles will continue to lead the Daytona-area business unit as senior director, doing business as Giles Electric. The existing leadership team will remain in place, and there are no plans to relocate operations or eliminate positions as a result of the acquisition.
Until the transaction is completed, Miller Electric and Giles Electric will continue operating as independent companies. There will be no changes to client contracts, points of contact or ongoing projects before the deal closes.
Miller Electric is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group Inc., a Fortune 500 company that provides mechanical and electrical construction services, industrial and energy infrastructure, and facilities services.
