Jacksonville, Fla. (Nov. 9, 2023) As part of National Apprenticeship Week (Nov. 13 -19), CareerSource Northeast Florida (CareerSource NEFL) is hosting a series of events to connect job seekers with apprenticeship opportunities and offer guidance to businesses in setting up their own apprenticeship programs.
For job seekers just graduating from high school, apprenticeships offer a great alternative to the traditional four-year college degree and avoiding the college debt that may go along with it, while offering opportunities for other job seekers to get paid and receive training while they transition to a new career.
The week kicks off with an Apprenticeship/Learn-While-You-Earn Recruitment Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at the CareerSource NEFL Gateway Career Center at 500 Norwood Ave., Suite 2. Companies recruiting for on-the-job-training positions include the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, JEA, Fleet Readiness, Northeast Florida Builders Association, Duval Ford, CINTAS, Ring Power and Metropower.
For parents, students and other job seekers who want to find out more about apprenticeships, how they work and what industries offer them, CareerSource NEFL is holding a webinar from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17. To take part, people can register on-line at https://bit.ly/ApprenticeshipsWebinar111723
Attendees will hear active apprentices talk about their experiences and learn more about the various learn-while-you-earn opportunities available in a wide range of industries.
CareerSource Northeast Florida is responsible for providing a trained workforce to the employers in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties. For more information on CareerSource NEFL’s services, visit careersourcenefl.com.
