Local company gets new, bigger contract for submarine parts (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Less than a month after receiving a $16 million contract related to building high frequency sail array sonar windows in Jacksonville, Collins Aerospace Co.’s Goodrich Corp. has won another, bigger contract with the Navy.
Goodrich Corp. was awarded a $54.6 million contract to manufacturing Hydrodynamic Shaping Material components for full-scale submarine applications and will also apply the components to “unique and complex full-scale submarine assemblies.”
Two companies bid for the job, which was awarded by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division in Bethesda, Maryland.
The project will run through March 2029.
Goodrich is part of Collins Aerospace, which is a subsidiary of Raytheon. The company has a long history in Jacksonville, with facilities here under different corporate names.
United Technologies acquired Rockwell Collins in 2018, merging Rockwell Collins with UTC Aerospace Systems to create Collins Aerospace. United Technologies merged with Raytheon Co. to form Raytheon Technologies in 2020.
In recent years, Collins has been expanding its presence in the area: Earlier this year, the company received a permit to begin work on a 23,000-square-foot building at its location on Blount Island, with mechanical and electrical permits also being pulled.
Records show Petrie Construction LLC is the contractor for the project at 6061 B.F. Goodrich Blvd. on Blount Island, which is a 15.9-acre industrial complex with 14 buildings. McCloskey Mechanical Contractors Inc., Watts Mechanical & Fabrication Inc. and Arc Flash Electric Corp are also involved in the work.
