Mayo Clinic continues growth with $2.8 million in renovations (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Mayo Clinic in Florida is continuing its growth in Jacksonville — this time it’s not a new patient tower or hotel but a renovation to benefit staff.
In August, Mayo Clinic announced its new employee wellness center will open in 2024. On Friday, Fickling Construction received a $2.8 million permit for alterations and repairs at 4500 San Pablo Road to create the wellness center.
Staff, volunteers and contractors will have access to fitness equipment and classes for free, Mayo Clinic said in a Facebook post.
This permit comes after last week’s $4.6 million permit, which outlined construction for Phase 3B of the hospital’s expansion. This permit called for construction of a three-story addition on the patient tower and an expanded ground floor at the emergency department entrance.
The city approved a permit Oct. 9 for Phase 3A of the project, which planned to build a five-story, 250,000-square-foot patient tower addition, costing about $130.7 million. This would transform the existing eight-story building to 13 stories.
The Robins & Morton Group received a $60 million permit in March to construct a shell building for this tower expansion above the existing eight-story building. The project, which anticipates adding 121 beds, is expected to be completed in 2026.
In 2022, the hospital announced plans to invest $432 million at the 4500 San Pablo Road campus.
Upon completion, the 1.4 million-square-foot hospital will house 419 patient beds.
