New freestanding emergency room in Middleburg set to open by October (Courtesy of Original Newsbreak) — HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital’s freestanding emergency room located in Middleburg is set to open in October 2022. The location will serve as Clay County’s third, freestanding emergency room facility.

HCA Middleburg Emergency will operate as a normal emergency department with board-certified equipment, doctors and nurses, as well as lab and radiology services, HCA Public Relations Directory Carrie Turansky said.

The exterior of the new HCA Middleburg ER is complete and work inside is being done with the facility set to open in October.

Located at 2554 Blanding Blvd., at the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and Everett Avenue, the facility sits on 4.6 acres of land. The building is 10,820 square feet with 11 beds and HCA anticipates 45 to 50 employees at the location, Turansky said.

“We are going to be completely equipped here just like our normal hospital locations,” she said. “The only difference is there are no rooms for patients who need to be admitted and stay overnight; they would have to be transported to an actual hospital location.”

The ER will be staffed with faculty and equipment prepared to transport such patients to the hospital if needed, she said. The same applies to HCA’s other freestanding emergency rooms, HCA Florida Park West Emergency located on 103rd Street and HCA Florida Normandy Park Emergency located on Normandy Boulevard in West Jacksonville.

In addition to the onsite services available to patients, the Middleburg location is equipped with telehealth equipment for those with an emergency that can be handled over the phone or online video chat, Turansky said.

“We don’t want people to have the impression that this location is any better or worse than a larger hospital,” she said. “The addition of telehealth services are available to patients and can be set up with direct access to the hospital if needed.”

Patients will have quick access to HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital’s team of specialists for maternity or women’s care, advanced cardiovascular, neurology, critical and surgical care. The ER will be open 24-hours a day with enough parking space for staff, guests and patients.

“We are excited to expand to meet the needs of the growing community in southern Clay County,” Emergency Medicine Physician and Medical Director for Orange Park Hospital’s freestanding emergency rooms Dr. Shilpa Amin said. “It’s why we do what we do. We want to bring emergency care closer to where people live so that they don’t have to travel far to get help when they need it quickly.”
