With preliminary construction plans expecting the building to be completed by late fall 2025, according to the hospital, the new ER will be located at the intersection of Kernan Boulevard and Beach Boulevard.
“At St. Vincent’s, we want to do everything in our power to ensure every person in every community can receive care during an emergency,” said Kevin Rinks, president and CEO of St. Vincent’s Southside, which will operate the new ER.
“This new freestanding emergency room reinforces our commitment to our patients that they will have access to quality and compassionate care.”
The emergency room will span 10,000 square feet, according to a release from the hospital, which includes a triage area, critical care room, nine treatment spaces and advanced CT and X-ray technology.
Over 16,000 patients are expected to receive care annually at the new location as the Southside area’s population is expected to increase by 5.9% in the next five years, according to the hospital.
This will be St. Vincent’s third freestanding ER with one found in Arlington and another on Jacksonville’s Westside. The new location represents St. Vincent’s commitment to delivering healthcare to all, hospital leadership said.
“Every patient who steps through our doors can be sure that our teams are equipped to handle even their most complex cases,” said Ascension Florida Chief Strategy Officer Michael Shaw, “thanks to the system of care sites we have established throughout Northeast Florida.”
