Northeast Florida Monthly Employment Report April 2026

FloridaCommerce has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region was 4.9 percent in April – up slightly from 4.7 percent in March.

Of the 871,479 people counted as the area’s labor force in April , there were 42,355 unemployed residents in the region – down from 44,400 unemployed residents the previous month.

                         Regional Employment Update

In April, Nassau County had the lowest unemployment rate in the region (4.6 percent), followed by St. Johns County (4.8), Baker County (4.9 percent), Clay County (4.9 percent), Duval County (4.9 percent) and Putnam County (5.6 percent).

The industries that gained the most jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+ 2,300 jobs); Professional and Business Services (+ 1,200 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+ 600 jobs); and Manufacturing (+ 300). The top-three industries losing jobs over the year were Financial Activities (- 3,700 jobs); Government (- 2,800); and Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (- 1,000 jobs).

The current top-five most-advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included retail salespersons (1,224 positions), fast food and counter workers (950), registered nurses (940), first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (866 positions), and first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers (857).
