FloridaCommerce has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region was 3.7 percent in August 2024 – down slightly from 3.8 percent in July 2024.
Of the 877,832 people counted as part of the area’s workforce in August, there were 32,311 unemployed residents in the region – down from 33,704 unemployed residents in July.

Regional Employment Update
In August, St. John’s County continued to have the lowest unemployment rate in the region (3.3 percent), followed by Nassau County (3.4 percent), Clay County (3.5 percent), Baker County (3.6 percent), Duval County (3.8 percent) and Putnam County (4.5 percent).
The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+3,700 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+2,900 jobs); Government (+2,800 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+2,700 jobs); Mining, Logging, and Construction (+2,600 jobs); Other Services (+1,200 jobs); and Professional and Business Services (+100 jobs).
The current top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included retail salespersons (1,816 positions), first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (1,718 positions), registered nurses (1,305), medical and health services managers (1,097 positions), and sales representatives of services – except advertising, insurance, financial services and travel – (1,015).
CareerSource NEFL hosts “Recruitment Wednesdays” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday at its Southside Career Center, located at 11268 Beach Blvd., where job seekers can meet with three-to-six employers hiring for current job openings.
CareerSource NEFL is also hosting in-person recruitment events in September for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at the Clay County Career Center (Sept. 23), for the Baker County Correctional Institute at the Baker County Career Center (Sept. 24) and a Multi-Employer Job Fair at the Gateway Career Center (Sept. 24).
In October, we’re hosting an in-person recruitment event for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority on Oct. 2 at the Gateway Career Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, we are participating a the St. Johns River State College Orange Park Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the college and at the JOBNewsUSA.com Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Jacksonville Riverfront.
