FloridaCommerce has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region was 4.6 percent in August – an increase from 4.3 percent in July.
Of the 895,066 people counted as the area’s labor force in August, there were 40,986 unemployed residents in the region – up from 38,248 unemployed residents the previous month.

Regional Employment Update
In August, Nassau County recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the region (4.4 percent), followed by St. John’s County (4.5 percent), Baker County (4.6 percent), Clay County (4.6 percent), Duval County (4.6 percent) and Putnam County (5.3 percent).
The industries that gained the most jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+6,900 jobs); Mining, Logging, and Construction (+2,000 jobs) and Government (+1,000 jobs). The industries losing jobs over the year were Financial Activities (-2,500 jobs) and Leisure and Hospitality (-1,200 jobs).
The current top-five most-advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included retail salespersons (1,081 positions), fast food and counter workers (962), first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers (961), registered nurses (951) and first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (869 positions).
