FloridaCommerce has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region was 3.1 percent in December 2024 – down from 3.6 percent in November 2024.
Of the 871,351 people counted as part of the area’s labor force in December, there were 26,606 unemployed residents unemployed residents in the region – down from 31,271 in November.
In December, Nassau County and St. John’s County recorded the lowest unemployment rates in the region (2.8 percent), followed by Clay County (3.1 percent), Duval County (3.1 percent), Baker County (3.2 percent) and Putnam County (3.8 percent).
The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+ 5,000 jobs); Trade, Transportation and Utilities (+ 3,900 jobs); Mining, Logging and Construction (+ 2,900 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+ 2,200 jobs); Government (+ 1,500 jobs); Other Services (+ 1,000 jobs); and Information (+ 400 jobs).
The current top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included retail salespersons (1,589 positions), first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (1,490 positions), registered nurses (1,448), medical and health services managers (1,160), and sales representatives of services – except advertising, insurance, financial services and travel (1,057).
