The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region decreased slightly from 2.8 percent in August to 2.5 percent in September.
Of the 875,077 people counted as part of the area’s workforce in September, there were 21,979 unemployed residents in the region – down from 24,388 unemployed residents in August.

Regional Employment Update
“In September, Northeast Florida’s unemployment rate was 1.1 percent lower than it was a year ago – with unemployment decreasing slightly in all six counties in the region,” said CareerSource Northeast Florida (CareerSource NEFL) President Bruce Ferguson. “We encourage job seekers to register with Employ Florida, which has more than half a million jobs posted online, while we continue to host virtual job fairs and in-person hiring events at our career centers to help connect regional employers with the necessary job seekers to fill their open positions.”
According to DEO’s September report, St. Johns County continued to have the lowest unemployment rate in Northeast Florida (2.1 percent) followed by Clay County (2.3 percent), Nassau County (2.3 percent), Baker County (2.5 percent), Duval County (2.7 percent) and Putnam County (3.6 percent).
The top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region in September included registered nurses (1,967 positions), first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (1,942 positions), retail sales workers (1,742 positions), stockers/order fillers (1,143 positions) and computer and customer service representatives 1,016 positions).
Last month, CareerSource NEFL received more than 3,400 open job positions from its partner-employers.
