FloridaCommerce has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region was 4.4 percent in September – decreasing slightly from 4.6 percent in August.
Of the 898,455 people counted as the area’s labor force in September, there were 39,302 unemployed residents in the region – down from 40,986 unemployed residents the previous month.

Regional Employment Update
In September, Nassau County and St. Johns County recorded the lowest unemployment rates in the region (4.2 percent), followed by Baker County, Clay County and Duval County (all 4.4 percent) and Putnam County (5.3 percent).
The industries that gained the most jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+7,100 jobs); Trade, Transportation and Utilities (+1,000 jobs); Mining, Logging, and Construction (+800 jobs) and Government (+800 jobs). The top-three industries losing jobs over the year were Financial Activities (-1,900 jobs); Manufacturing (-500 jobs) and Leisure and Hospitality (-400 jobs).
The current top-five most-advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included retail salespersons (1,173 positions), registered nurses (911), fast food and counter workers (908), first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers (824), and first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (670 positions).
