FloridaCommerce has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region was 3.8 percent in July 2024 – up from 3.6 percent in June 2024.
Of the 883,133 people counted as part of the area’s workforce in July, there were 33,704 unemployed residents in the region – up from 31,764 unemployed residents June.
In June, St. John’s County continued to have the lowest unemployment rate in the region (3.4 percent), followed by Nassau County (3.5 percent), Baker County (3.6 percent), Clay County (3.6 percent), Duval County (4.0 percent) and Putnam County (4.7 percent).
The industries gaining jobs over the year were Education and Health Services (+5,100 jobs), Leisure and Hospitality (+4,300 jobs), Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+3,300 jobs), Mining, Logging, and Construction (+2,700 jobs), Government (+2,600 jobs), Other Services (+1,100 jobs); and Manufacturing (+100 jobs). The industries losing jobs over the year were Financial Activities (-900 jobs) and Professional and Business Services (-200 jobs).
The current top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (1,695 positions), retail salespersons (1,678 positions), registered nurses (1,243), sales representatives of services – except advertising, insurance, financial services and travel – (1,034), and first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers (1,006).
