The $14.4 million project, expected to open in late 2022, will be at 2554 Blanding Blvd. at Everett Avenue. An old strip mall is currently on the 4.6-acre site, which was purchased in March for $3.8 million.
The new center, which is about 11 miles from Orange Park’s main hospital, will be “conveniently located” to provide emergency care not only to residents of Middleburg, but Lake Asbury, Green Cove Springs and Penney Farms, hospital officials said.
“When people experience an emergency, they’re looking for fast, efficient, quality and convenient care,” said emergency room physician Steven Goodfriend, emergency services medical director. “By bringing this new ER to the Middleburg area, we’ll be able to meet the community’s growing need with the same high level of care that we offer at our main hospital.”
The new location will have 10,820 square feet, 11 patient rooms and on-site imaging and lab services. The full-service emergency department will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week with board-certified physicians, nurses and staff trained to treat adults and children.
