Raytheon to work on multimillion-dollar helicopter contract in Jacksonville (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Texas-based Raytheon Co. has won a $272.7 million contract to work on helicopter targeting systems, with most of the work being done in Jacksonville.

The contract is to provide logistics, repair, and upgrade support for 15 Multi-Spectral Targeting System Forward-Looking Infrared components in support of MH-60R and MH-60S helicopters.

Seventy percent of the work will be done in Jacksonville and the remainder in McKinney, Texas.

The helicopters — known as Seahawks and Knighthawks — are used by the Navy for tasks such as anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, personnel recovery and mine detection. The five helicopter squadrons based at Naval Air Station Jacksonville fly the MH-60R.

The contract has a five-year base period plus two one-year option periods, which would bring the total contract value to $376.4 million.

Raytheon was the only company solicited for the work. The Texas company is responsible for building and fitting the targeting systems in the Sikorsky helicopters.
