A report designed to help site selection companies says that Florida’s logistics industry and human capital has gotten stronger in the past year, but the Sunshine States’s manufacturing sector and global reach remain below the national average.

The Ball State Center for Business and Economic Research’s 2020 Manufacturing Scorecard said Florida’s human capital went from a C+ to a B while its logistics sector’s health improved to a C+ from a C, according to the

The logistics industry was graded by looking at total logistics industry income as a share of total state income, and the employment per capita as well as how much is being moved by rail and road and how much is being invested in highway construction. The human capital score was based on educational attainment.

In manufacturing, the state’s score remained at a D based on looking at the share of total income earned by manufacturing employees in each state, the wage premium paid to manufacturing workers relative to the other states’ employees, and the share of manufacturing employment per capita.

Global reach also remained at a D. That was based on metrics related to exporting and and foreign-direct investment in the state.
