Site of former St. Augustine Red Lobster to be used for bank (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — One of the busiest commercial corners in St. Augustine will soon have a new tenant.

The property at 100 State Road 312, near the intersection with U.S. 1, used to house a Red Lobster restaurant, but its lease recently expired.

Replacing it on part of the property will be a new Chase Bank branch location.

Representatives for the ownership, Coltrane Real Estate Investments LLC, recently went before the St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency as part of a process for obtaining a minor modification of the Planned Special Development on the parcel.

There is another bank branch, SouthState Bank, adjacent to the lot.

Because the Chase branch won’t take up as much space as Red Lobster did, there is still the possibility that another business — perhaps a smaller restaurant — will be added.

The property owner is holding onto its right to serve alcohol at the site should a restaurant be added there in the future. According to what was said at the PZA meeting, no specific restaurant is currently planned for the space.
