Superior Construction to be paid $32M to widen major artery in St. Johns County (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — Superior Construction is set to be paid around $32.7 million to widen County Road 210, a two-lane road in a booming part of St. Johns County.
Superior will add two lanes to the highway, which has seen an increase in congestion as the population in the area has grown. Work is expected to take about two years.
The project — which covers a 2.3 mile stretch from Cimarrone Boulevard to Greenbriar Road — includes adding a median between lanes as well as bike lanes and sidewalks. Superior will also install traffic lights at Cimarrone Boulevard and Shearwater Parkway.
St. Johns County has been working on the project for more than a year. Last April, the county began negotiating a preliminary agreement with Superior, which set the stage for the company to begin land clearing and other work. On Tuesday, the final contract for the work will be taken up by the Board of County Commissioners, according to its agenda.
Superior has been on a roll of winning roadway and other infrastructure construction projects across the First Coast, including being selected for a $4.2 million St. Augustine drainage project earlier this year.
In Duval County, the company is being paid $26 million contract by the state to upgrade and revamp a section of State Road 115/Arlington Expressway.
Last year, the company won the bid for two major FDOT projects worth more than $112.5 million, expanding its portfolio to include improvements on the Interstate 295 and U.S. 17 Interchange and the Interstate 4 and Daryl Carter Parkway Interchange.
