The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region increased from 2.4 percent in May to 3.0 percent in June.
Of the 865,507 people counted as part of the area’s workforce in June, there were 25,695 unemployed residents – up from about 21,000 unemployed residents in May.
“Although the unemployment rate increased in June, there are still hundreds of employers who are working with CareerSource Northeast Florida to fill open positions in our region…and the current rate of 3.0% is trending well below the 4.7 percent unemployment rate Northeast Florida experienced in June 2021,” said CareerSource Northeast Florida President Bruce Ferguson.
According to DEO’s June report, St. Johns County continued to have the lowest unemployment rate in Northeast Florida (2.3 percent) – followed by Nassau County (2.5 percent), Clay County (2.7 percent), Baker County (2.8 percent), Duval County (3.2 percent) and Putnam County (4.4 percent).
“Compared to other metro areas in Florida, the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) had the fastest annual job growth rate in professional and business services (up 14 percent, representing 16,000 jobs) over the last 12 months and our hospitality industry rebounded very well (up 10 percent, representing 8,200 jobs) from June 2021 to June 2022,” Ferguson said.
The top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region include retail sales workers (7,661 positions), registered nurses (7,646 positions), first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (7,498 positions), stockers and order fillers (5,911 positions) and customer service representatives (4,845 positions).
In June, CareerSource NEFL received more than 2,500 open job positions from its partner-employers.
