FloridaCommerce has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region was 2.9 percent in December 2023 – down slightly from the previous month.
Of the 905,619 people counted as part of the area’s workforce in December, there were 26,585 unemployed residents in the region – down from 27,361 unemployed residents in November.
Our total labor force in our metro area, including both employed and unemployed, was up more than 33,000 over 12 months – representing a 3.8 percent increase in 2023. In 2023, the region had the second highest annual job growth in education and health services (9,200 new jobs) and financial activities (3,200 new jobs) compared to other Florida metro areas.”
In December, St. John’s County continued to record the lowest unemployment rate in the region (2.6 percent), followed by Baker County (2.8 percent), Nassau County (2.8 percent), Clay County (2.9 percent), Duval County (3.0 percent) and Putnam County (4.1 percent).

The current top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region included first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (1,008 positions), retail salespersons (983 positions), first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers (611), fast food and counter workers (583 positions), and registered nurses (551).
