City approves plans for Phase II of Boeing South Yard project (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Business Journal) — The next phase of construction at Boeing South Yard is one step closer to beginning.

City officials approved civil plans for Phase II of the Boeing South Yard project Friday, according to city records.

As Boeing’s third facility at Cecil Airport and Spaceport, the project is slated to deliver another upgraded maintenance, repair and overhaul arm for the American aviation giant to do work on the U.S. Navy KC-46 aircraft. Scannell Properties is the developer of the project and The Haskell Company is serving as engineer.

Records show designs for an aircraft hangar, employee/visitor parking and a global real estate and facilities building are moving forward. The aircraft hangar is set to be used for storage and repair on the 34.25-acre site.

In 2024, the city gave the green light for construction of the project’s first phase, approving a $90 million permit for the build of the facility.

Last year in October, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority received environmental clearance from the state to move forward with the additional construction.

The Boeing footprint at JAA’s portion of the former Jacksonville naval base is a centerpiece to the strategic shift local leaders took to spur a boom in research, manufacturing and aerospace facilities at the base.

While Cecil still has the capabilities for a flashy horizontal launch into space, the upgraded Boeing facility represents the type of developments JAA officials are looking to grow in the Westside.
