Since CareerSource NEFL introduced Recruitment Wednesday events at the Southside Career Center on Beach Boulevard, hundreds of employers have taken part – and many local job seekers have found work as a result.
Recently, representatives from the Wounded Warrior Project, Chartwells and Manpower reported hiring several job seekers to fill open positions.
Mildred Garcia, the human resources recruiter for Chartwells hired three job seekers at the Recruitment Wednesday held on February 25 – with Wounded Warrior Project and Manpower hiring one employee each.
Christina Pacheco, the market lead for Manpower, has been with the company for five years and was introduced to CareerSource NEFL about two years ago through business specialist Maria Cunningham – and is now working with business specialist Yolanda Williams.
“I tried to attend the Recruitment Wednesday events at least every other week over the last summer and I definitely do my best to work with the organization when it helps out employees who are being laid off or displaced, like the event you held for Kroger employees over the holidays,” she said.
Although it may be better known as a staffing company, Manpower offers permanent, temporary and part-time job opportunities for job candidates with a range of qualifications and experience – and in companies across a variety of sectors. In addition, Manpower can provide comprehensive benefits, training and development opportunities, as well as career planning for job seekers.
In the first quarter of the calendar year, Pacheco says she’s hired at least three associates – Gavin, Antonio and Jamaya.
Pacheco commended CareerSource NEFL for the resources it provides to job seekers.
“I’ve seen the team members help job seekers create profiles and resumes, and that’s huge because that’s where the big disconnect is with candidates…they just don’t understand how to write a resume properly ,” she said. “That’s really the selling statement you’re sharing with an employer or, in our case, our clients, and not having that really hurts the job seeker in the process.”
In her role with Manpower, Pacheco works throughout North Florida as far west as Gainesville and south of Jacksonville to Palatka.
Pacheco works with about 30 corporate clients in the region representing many industries – ranging from logistics companies to insurance and telecommunications companies.
“Despite the low unemployment rate we have in Florida, we’re always in the market for good job candidates to fill open positions,” she said. “Many may be entry level, but they do offer job seekers a good wage…and may lead them to a new, long term career.”
