The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has announced that the unemployment rate for the Jacksonville region dipped slightly from 2.9 percent in July to 2.8 percent in August.

Of the 867,747 people counted as part of the area’s workforce in August, there were 24,388 unemployed residents – down from 24,874 unemployed residents in July.

“Along with the state of Florida, Northeast Florida’s job creation has continued its upward momentum with our unemployment rate across all counties either declining or remaining unchanged for over a year,” said CareerSource Northeast Florida (CareerSource NEFL) President Bruce Ferguson. “In addition to our virtual job fairs and in-person employer events hosted at our career center locations, we encourage job seekers to register with Employ Florida, which has more than half a million jobs posted online.”

According to DEO’s August report, St. Johns County continued to have the lowest unemployment rate in Northeast Florida (2.2 percent), which was the lowest county number in the state last month, followed by Nassau County (2.4 percent), Clay County (2.5 percent), Baker County (2.6 percent), Duval County (3.0 percent) and Putnam County (4.0 percent).

The top-five most advertised job occupations among all industries in the region in August included registered nurses (5,676 positions), retail sales workers (5,116 positions), first-line supervisors of retail salespersons (5,073 positions), stockers/order fillers (4,304 positions) and customer service personnel (3,549 positions).
