Courtesy of the Jacksonville Daily Record – Ascension St. Vincent’s announced Jan. 5 it opened the region’s first specialty hospital dedicated to orthopedic and spine care at its Ascension St. Vincent’s Southside campus.

The Performance Orthopedics and Spine Specialty Hospital, which is part of a partnership between Ascension Florida and Gulf Coast, Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company and Southeast Orthopedic Specialists, opened Jan. 4, according to the news release.

The specialty hospital has a dedicated check-in area, clinical and nonclinical staff, operating rooms, preoperating and recovery areas, inpatient rooms, a rehabilitation unit and a waiting area.

“Patients should have the best, most personalized musculoskeletal care possible in the best setting possible, and that’s why we’ve partnered to create the new Performance Orthopedics and Spine specialty hospital,” orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gavan Duffy said in the release. “When all aspects of care are aligned and streamlined, it makes it more convenient for patients and can also help them get better, faster.”

The news release said the specialty hospital will continue to expand into Florida and Southeast Georgia this year.

Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company is a musculoskeletal provider and offers management, health care solutions and care coordination for practices, patients and health systems.

Ascension St. Vincent’s announced the partnership between the organizations in July. Its goal is to improve the quality of musculoskeletal care throughout North Florida. It will include the development of ambulatory surgery centers and the orthopedic specialty hospital.

Southeast Orthopedic will provide doctors for the clinically integrated network, along with those from Ascension and in the community.

Ascension and Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company also will develop a clinically integrated network of musculoskeletal physician practices.

“We are thrilled to see our plans to improve the level of orthopedic and spine care in Northeast Florida come to life,” James Machado, regional president of Ascension St. Vincent’s Southside and Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County, said in the release.

“We’ve done the research and know that our community has long needed something like Performance Orthopedics and Spine that is dedicated to bringing musculoskeletal providers together into a top-notch, comprehensive network.”
